In 1977 a group of volunteers in Byfield decided there was a need for elderly housing. This group started the process of forming a nonprofit corporation

We were offered a lot of land located at 84 Main St. After many setbacks, the corporation built 22 units of elderly/handicap housing. The project was named Oak Ridge

In 1982, It became apparent we needed more elderly housing. Our search for land brought us to 115 Main Street where 24 unites were built named Quaker Hill

The Housing continues to be a haven for the elderly and handicap in the area where rentals are at a minimum.

Byfield Elderly Housing is managed by a group of residents within the town.
